Mercury Waste Enquiries
Mercury waste enquiries should be addressed in the first instance to one of the contacts detailed on the contacts page. Due to the nature of mercury waste, Quicksilver undertakes a standard process to evaluate and deal with enquiries.
Following initial discussions by phone, you are required to fill out a Mercury Waste Shipment Specification Sheet. This must be filled in and submitted back to Quicksilver Recovery prior to the submission of a sample of your mercury waste for trials. As much detail as possible should be provided on this sheet to assist with the evaluation process.
Following this, a trial sample of your mercury waste, usually about 2kg is submitted to the Quicksilver laboratory for initial evaluation. There is not usually a charge for this process unless it is undertaken as a part of an independent consultancy agreement.
Next, further discussions will take place between yourselves and Quicksilver resulting in the provision of an estimate. During this dialogue, further information and testing of your mercury waste may be required by the UK Environmental Agency.
The next step is a full scale trial. On successful completion of the trail, or trials if further work is required, a contract between the two parties is drawn up and commercial terms agreed. From here on your mercury waste is routinely processed according to the process and commercial terms agreed.
Mercury waste is usually classified as 'Special Waste' and comes under the Special Waste Regulations. Quicksilver can arrange shipment of mercury waste from either within the UK or outside the UK for treatment at their processing plant. The UK Environment Agency requires formal notification of all mercury waste shipments made in the UK. The authorities in your country may also have a notification process which must be completed before shipments of mercury waste are made. Quicksilver are a registered broker for the preparation of Special Waste and Trans Frontier Shipment documentation and will usually act on your behalf to prepare all of the required documentation for shipping.
